Ok well I guess the first to do is let all you know who I am my names Jonnathan or as some of you out there will know me as Tvmogel08, the Hollyoaks Central channel on Youtube. I'm a film student currently in my third and final year which is quite daunting as that means it’s time to look to the future. Thats where this blog and podcast comes in. I was thinking just the other day about where do I see myself going after graduation and I had all these thoughts and I came to the idea that maybe it's being a TV critic. Although I've had this thought before growing up seeing the likes of Richard Arnold of all people every morning on GMTV talking about TV over the years it has sort of drifted away. But over the past I few years I've really found myself being really drawn into the world of television especially when it comes to the realm of serialised drama.
I'm a big fan of TV I mean who isn't but as me Mam has told me on many occasions I do have the tendency to become obsessed with the shows that I watch, and I've come to accept that she's not wrong. When it come to TV I'm definitely not a passive viewer I immerse myself in it I put myself into the diegetic world of the shows I'm watching almost as if I'm experiencing what's going on and during those 30 or 60 minutes I'm part of that world. But then at the end of the show I step back and think about what I just watched and give critique about what I loved in the episode and what I might not have liked as much. This is anything from what I thought of the character development, the acting performances or, on a technical level what I thought of the directing and editing of the episode. I also love to see how a show will use music whether it be scored or that of incidental music and how well I think it worked.
I have a plethora of favourite shows past and present from the likes of The Bill to Bad Girls to Shameless or from the other side of the Atlantic One Tree Hill and Desperate Housewives. But there's far too many for me to talk about and that will keep for another day. However, after having a long think to myself I felt that the show that means a lot to me and has done so for practically all my TV viewing life would be the perfect fit and topic for me to talk to all of you about hopefully on a weekly basis and that show is Hollyoaks.
I will soon start the podcast and in the first show I will tell you what Hollyoaks really means to me and what features you can expect during each show.
But until then you can follow me on twitter @tvgenius05
